Blurbing with the BabesJanuary 2, 2008Before we start the blurbing for 2008, I have to tell you about my debut experience yesterday. Rowena Cherry invited me to guest on her internet radio talk show, Cherry Picking. Also chatting along were authors Jacquie Rogers, Deborah MacGillivray, Teresa D'Amario, Diane White and my Beyond Her Book blurber extraordinaire, Joyce. This was my first foray into the audio media and I've got to say I liked it a lot. It was great fun, I learned new things and I think I'm ready for television (can someone call Oprah for me and let her know I'm available...or maybe Jon Stewart). Check it out and let me know what you think. Now, on to the real stars of Wednesdays, my WW ladies and friends with their reads of the week. ![]() Eyes of Crow by Jeri Smith-ReadyReviewed by Joyce In most literature I’ve read, the crow has always been seen as the harbinger of death, and those who foresee a death have been called crows. This has always seemed a negative thing. Jeri Smith-Ready has, however, brought it into a different light. As each person reaches the age to Become, he or she is chosen by an Animal Spirit to take on the strengths and talents of that aspect. Owls are wise, wolves are hunters, wolverines are ferocious warriors. Those few chosen by Crow are given the precious and respected gift of easing the way for those passing from life into death. Rhea is a young woman who must learn to use the power of her gift as her privilege and her duty, without losing herself in the sorrow and despair that accompanies death. This was a beautiful story, and I was warmed by its gentleness, love and compassion. These days I tend to get caught up in the supernatural screwiness of vampires and werewolves, so this was a departure into a different spiritual world that I enjoyed very much. I understand there is a second book out now, Voice of Crow, and I look forward to reading that soon. Conquest, treachery and savagery are the fears and constants in the British Isles during the times after the Roman departure. The Sea King is a romantic excursion into the period, and readers can lose themselves in the colorful imagery.

In response to: Blurbing with the Babes Deborah Macgillivray commented: Barbara, we have been nattering for couple months now on my space and emails, so it was grand fun to chat with you and Joyce in the old-fashioned way - on the phone! Rowena is simply fab as a hostess, and I enjoy all these shows she does on Internet radio. (She will give you a MP3 file of the show so you can post it on your MySpace blog! It was a blast to start the New Year out talking with you and the Nina Bangs' fan Joyce!!

I am reading Kennedy's Enchanting the Lady - adore it. I have to agree when someone said when a perosn really raves about a book being a good read, I want to try it. All you ladies were just so much entertaining. Good Show!

In response to: Blurbing with the Babes Jusy commented: Love your radio debut. About ebooks, you might want to connect with your fellow PW Blogger David Rothman who writes the "E-BOOK REPORT". See what reading your blog did -- connected me with another blog. I use to only come to PW to check out the lists when Sherri has a new book released.

So around the 15th it should be ready for people to listen to. I will keep you posted. It's a grand fun show, so I am sure all your PW fans will want to catch it on the repeat.
