(My)Space Cadet
January 3, 2008
Today is the 3 month anniversary of my entrance into the realm of
MySpace. In that time, I have accumulated 393 friends and there have been 2567 visits to my site (that's just crazy). So, just to keep the ball rolling, I'm calling on all of you who haven't yet joined me to befriend me. If you already are friends, help me out by getting your friends, relatives, neighbors and pets to
join my posse. The magic number is 500 in the next 24 hours. I only need 107 more and I have faith in all of you.
If you've never experienced MySpace (I admit that I was skeptical) you are in for a wonderful surprise. I've come to know the most amazing, talented people and some of their sites hold the most incredible treasures of graphic, video, audio and written gems.
Here's my map that shows where everyone is from who has visited me. As you can see, there are a few empty spaces in the U.S. that have no little red dots and I can only think that either they haven't heard of
Beyond Her Book yet or they don't have internet access there (yeah, that's most likely the reason). Now I want to visit all these people and say hi and thanks for befriending me on MySpace and maybe have a hazelnut coffee and some small cookies...and a little piece of dark chocolate would be nice.

I do have a red dot from China because
Marjorie Liu is there now. I've been following her adventures on her
blog and this picture shows her at a local bookstore next to her book
X-Men: Dark Mirror. How cool is that?
And I almost forgot to mention that my son, Andrew gave me a book for Christmas. No, really, he did. First time ever. Andrew's not a big reader...he's the artist of the family, so to get a real book from him (that's not a graphic novel), is a red letter day. Oh, what book, you say?
I Am America (and so can you) by Stephen Colbert. I absolutely love it. It's witty, fun and makes me smile. And the best part...Andrew read it before he gave it to me. Yes, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Every week I like to take a day to give kudos and bits of info from the book/writing/publishing world. Please email me with any news or noteworthy info you may have. Haven't heard much lately, but the holidays are over, so no excuses.
Bottom Line: With all these friends, I can't wait for my birthday! (October 7th...I'm just saying...)
