Harlequin's 60th AnniversaryJune 11, 2009 By now you've all heard about Harlequin celebrating it's 60th year of "pure reading pleasure." As a kid, I remember going into the local Woolworth store and seeing the round rotating display of books that made me wish I was rich so I could buy them all. (Ok, maybe I did spin the thing too hard a couple of times so some of the books would fly out, but that's how I picked what I would buy). Now I hear that Harlequin planned a special Famous Firsts Collection which are the first Harlequin series books by New York Times bestselling authors of today. I can honestly say I've never heard of any of the books, but that only means I didn't read them....yet. I thought we'd have some fun with this and let you try to match the titles with the authors.
 As a special bonus for todays readers, Harlequin has gracious offered some lovely tote bags featuring a vintage cover and, of course, Famous First books that will be given away to anyone who posts a comment with "Harlequin Rocks!" Winners will be picked by Harlequin and posted tomorrow. Bottom Line: Harlequin Rocks! (I thought if I were first, I'd win one of those amazing bags). So no need to enter me in the drawing, but I did want to say hello. I'm a newcomer to the world of romance, having spent most of my life reading mysteries and science fiction, but now that my books are being sold as romances, I figured I ought to learn more about the genre. I recognize most of the authors, have read some of their books, but not these "firsts". Worth checking out.

I pretty much cut my teeth on romance reading from them--I literally could read 5-6 a day, pretty much devour them. Thank goodness for libraries for this then teenager! I discovered many of my favourite authors through Harlequin. Recognized several right off the bat as I still have the original copies of them!
