Oh my gosh! Can I be your assistant when you go to Atlanta for "Moonlight & Magnolias"? I like the variety you listed--seems like a nice cross-section geographically too. Go to them all--I'll organize a fundraiser "Send Barbara Vey Far Away"--just kidding! We enjoy your blog every day & your friendship too!
Barbara, you're an adventuress! I'll see you at the WisRWA conference -- or earlier. I hope you get to Scotland. That's on my list too.
You know we're dying to have you come down to Alabama for our Luncheon in May!
Ignore any other volunteers; I get first dibs. Anywhere. Especially Scotland or Hugh Jackman ;-}
I'm just trying to figure out a way to shrink myself so that I can ride on your shoulder! Okay the one I think you should attend is Dragon Con. It's a SciFi/Fantasy convention in Atlanta. It's Labor Day weekend. Went for the first time this year and it was a blast! Got to meet Sherrilyn Kenyon, Chelsea Quinn Yarbo, and Laurell K Hamilton. Plus I got to have my picture taken with the yummy Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk!
I live in Wisconsin, so I'm looking into the WisRWA one. I've always wanted to attend an author gathering.
You know they have the Edinburgh Book Festival in June right? Audra and I went this past year to see what it was all about *she lives there* and we might do it this coming year... You wanna come? Hangout with a bunch of Scots? LOL its a beautiful country, i spent three weeks there last June for her wedding. OOh what about the Authors After Dark Paranormal event in October in NY? lots of good authors going to be there... and its a paranormal romance event... you should consider it.

It was great meeting you at ThrillerFest last summer, Barbara! Hope to see you there again in 2009. My Backspace conference in New York City May 28 - 30 is a great event for anyone looking to connect with authors and agents: www.backspacewritersconference.com (not that I'm partial, or anything!)
One of my favorites is SleuthFest in South Florida in February.
Barbara, Wendy from Comic-Con here. You've got to come back again next year! That way, if Hugh Jackman is there, we can hang out with him and interview him!
Oh, Barbara, you had me at hello with that gorggous Scottish picture! What was the question again?
So gorgeous, I can't spell 'gorgeous'. Blushing!
Thanks for the tips, I'm looking into some of these new ones now. So many places, so many people to video.
DragonCon is a blast! And the 1st Authors After Dark Conference in NY is going to be loaded with authors and fun.
i'd recommend dragon con *grins*
Lori Foster's event, and Ellora's Cave RomantiCon. That way we can meet!!
Dragon Con FTW. Comic con is good too although I haven't been yet.
You could combine a visit to Scotland with the Romantic Novelist's association conference in July which is being held in Penrith in the Lake District in 2009...
I really need to get a passport. It's on my Christmas list.
We'd love to see you at the Write State of Mind Conference in Framingham, MA March 27-28th. Lisa Gardner is going to be our keynote speaker, along with Jennifer Greene and Jessica Andersen.
I've never been to DragonCon but have heard excellent things about it. Gotta get there one of these years. WisRWA conference is always good ... but you know that.
I say you should head to Seattle in October for the Emerald City Writers' Conference. It's awesome.
Emerald City Writers' Conference - October 9-11, 2009. It's the largest regional conference on the west coast.
Ah, yes, Daniel Craig. Yummy. I vote for WisRWA (I *love* their conference) and RT in 2009.
You will be at RT in Orlando this year, yes? Hope to see you there. Bring your faery wings!
Emerald City in the Seattle area is the one I never miss. I love it so much I even joined the chapter even though I'm too far away for meetings.
Oh, and bring Fabio when you come. Or Hugh or Daniel would be fine, too.
I spoke at the International Women's Fiction Festival (www.womensfictionfestival.com) last year and loved it. It's in a small town in southern Italy called Matera. I probably won't be going back again this year, but possibly the year after. It's a GREAT conference. Very intimate. And of course there's always RWA National in DC. (I'll be there!)
November of next year Land of Enchantment Romance Authors (New Mexico) is having a conference where the speakers will be Sherrilyn Kenyon, Diana Love and some other NYTer that I don't remember right now. You should come to that.
I'll be at the WisRWA, And the Chicago Spring Fling was this year, they only do it every OTHER year. Darn them, I've heard its big fun. Maybe something else is afoot in Chicago.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. There's some new ones I've never heard of, so I'll be checking then all out and then posting where I'll be. Hope to see you all in 2009!
I vote for the Emerald City Writers' Conference!!! We have a great time here in Seattle, only it would be better with you! :)
The nearest I can suggest to Scotland is Pcon in Ireland - I went last year and now I wouldn't miss it for the world, even if it wasn't the only one I can currently get to. It's small, intimate and a lot of fun. More SFF than romance, but a good slice of Paranormal running around amid the chaos. www.pcon.ie
There is the Ellora's Cave Con in beautiful Richfield, Ohio. (Damn, where is that sarcasm button.) The Chicago Comicon is also very nice.
NJ RWA Put Your Heart in a Book in Oct!
You're cordially invited to attend the 2009 Moonlight & Magnolias conference sponsored by Georgia Romance Writers. We're a fun group, with lots of published authors, agents and editors in attendance every year. This year (2008) our Keynote Speaker was Teresa Medieros.
What about Ireland? Come to PCon!

DragonCon! DragonCon! And while you're at it, Moonlight and Magnolias was a blast last year!! So much, in fact, that I'll be going again in 2009.
Emerald City Writers' Conference is fantastic...we do a Readers Luncheon in Portland in April - Lucy Monroe is the keynote...
I always go to Celebrate Romance, which is great fun every year. Cathy Maxwell is the keynote speaker this year, but my favorite events are the discussion groups and the social events - we always have a blast. It's at the end of February in Portland.
I never miss CR (Celebrate Romance). I love how intimate the setting is. I attend a lot of romance/writing events, but nothing lets me have as much one on one time with authors as CR. I always meet new friends too!
I, too, have heard wonderful things about DragonCon. I'll get there one of these years. This year is also the first year for Sirens (www dot sirensconference dot org), a conference dedicated to women in fantasy literature (both as writers and as characters, from what I gather). The guest of honor is Tamora Pierce, and Sherwood Smith is also on the guest list--which, alone, makes it sound like a great time! It's in Vail, Colorado, October 1-4, 2009.

Barbara, we would love to have you at the Florida Romance Writers conference January 22nd-24th. We're crusing on the Navigator of the Seas to the Bahamas with Christina Dodd as our keynote! www.frwriters.org

Come to RWA New England. Don't be fooled... Fitchburg sounds dull but it's a college town. Great Pizza! Plus New England Divas. Total bonus!
I love Celebrate Romance, and what's notable about this one is that it's a reader-organized and run conference, not a writer's conference. It's really focused on conversation about everything happening in the genre, and it's wonderful.
Yes, I really want to go on the cruise, but I don't have a passport. :( I have also checked out all the suggestions, but lots of the sites aren't updated yet with the 2009 details. As I figure out my budget, I'll post my schedule. I plan on visiting as many as possible.
Thanks for all the great suggestions! And keep 'em coming!
For an unusual yet TOTALLY fun conference that really focuses on writers - it's NECon in July in Rhode Island. Charlaine Harris was there last year. It's referred to as Camp Necon 'cause that's how much fun they have. Sorry.. no Hugh Jackman - yet.
And I'm SURE that warm, sunny Orlando is looking pretty good to you right now with all that snow, right? Hope to see you in April, Barbara! :)
Speaking of sunny, warm places...how about a Florida cruise in January? Visit the Florida Romance Writer's Cruise with Your Muse conference page. You can easily google it. Elissa
