Winners and Your Turn Friday
November 30, 2007

A big Beyond Her Book thank you to Margie Lawson for stopping by yesterday with her thought provoking Right brain/Left brain challenge and sticking around to answer every poster.  You can still take the test and leave your comments.  I'm sure Margie will be stopping by again.  It was great fun and now for the winners of Margie's Lecture packages...drum roll please...  Clea Simon and Gemma Halliday!!  Please send Margie your snail mail address.

November 30th...where has the time gone?  25 shopping days until Christmas, tree to put up, presents to wrap, cookies to bake, lists to make, or whatever your religious background demands of you this time of year.  For other people anyway.  I only have one thing to do...books to read.  And since that's what I do the rest of the year anyway, the only change for me is hot cocoa replacing cold lemonade and an afghan instead of a fan.

This week I read Lost Girls by Robert Doherty aka Bob Mayer (brilliant and funny half of the team, who with the equally talented Jennifer Crusie brought us Don't Look Down and  Agnes and the Hitman).  When I met Bob a while ago, I was whining about the ending of Bodyguard of Lies, a book I really enjoyed until the last page.  "What happened to Hannah?" I cried.  "How could you leave me hanging like that?"  He promptly told me "what happened" and when I asked him why he didn't put it in the book, he told me because it's in the next book, Lost Girls.  Duh!  I hadn't realized it was going to have a sequel, but suddenly it all made sense.  I couldn't wait to dive in, but alas, there were piles before his.

Well, finally this week I got to satisfy my craving and devoured this book.  Young women are being abducted and when their connection is discovered ultra secret Cellar operative Major Jack Gant is sent in to work with profiler Susan Golden.  A top level security cover up is in play and the clock is ticking for one lost girl still alive.

This book is a heart thumper and the killings aren't sissy stuff, but I dare you to try to put this book down once you start reading.  I plan to give a copy to my son (not something I can say about all the books I read) and another to my mom, who loves this stuff.

So, now that you've checked to see if you won Margie's prize, stay and post what you've been reading for the week.

Bottom Line:  Yes, I did use my whole brain to write this blog.

If you have problems posting, please sent your comment to me and I'll post for you.

Barbara -- Yay! You reviewed LOST GIRLS! Robert Doherty (aka Bob Mayer)is brilliant, witty and deep. :-))) THIS WEEK: I read ISABELLA MOON by Laura Benedict (her stunning release)and I READ FOR THE SECOND TIME Lisa Gardner's GONE. Lisa always delivers heart-wrenching and heart-thumping reads. I commute, so AUDIOBOOKS are my constant companions. Both LAURA BENEDICT and LISA GARDNER captivate me. :-)))

Boo hoo! I didn't win. :-( This week I read HIS STYLE OF SEDUCTION by Roxanne St. Claire. Yum-o hero and a great premise and of course Rocki's wonderful style of writing. It's nice and steamy -- great for a cold winter night. A few weeks ago I read the first novella in a Nora Roberts Christmas Anthology THE GIFT. I'm going to start the second novella today and hopefully finish that book in a day or two. My tree is up and the house is decorated. We did it while #2 son was home last weekend to help. Hehe. My shopping is done and I've mailed the boxes that needed mailing. I have a pile of gifts in my office to wrap, but I can do that one evening after dinner. My biggest chore is a total housecleaning since my RWA Christmas party is here a week from tomorrow.

Wow - I DID Win! Thank you!! And having said that... I am just finishing up "The Mission Song"by John Le Carre. I find all his books slow getting into but then, invariably, I can't put them down. This was one of the slower ones and I kept thinking I'd quit, but somehow at 1 a.m. last night I was still reading.... - Clea www.cleasimon.com

I absolutely loved LOST GIRLS by Robert Doherty (aka Bob Mayer). Bob is also a fabulous teacher. If anyone ever has the chance to go to one of his workshops they should. Margie - Ohhhhh, I loved ISABELLA MOON by Laura Benedict. It's one of my all time favorites! I love Laura's voice. It's very unique and I can't wait for her next release!!! What did I read this week? BEATING THE BABUSHKA by Tim Maleeny. It's Tim's second book and I just love his character Cape. Great read.

Congrats to the winners!!! This week... LAST NOEL by Heather Graham about family held hostage Christmas Eve and just finished THE WARRIOR by Kinley MacGregor about Lochlan MacAllister. Both were enjoyable stories. Though THE WARRIOR had an interesting twist towards the end.

Thanks Barb for clearing up that lost feeling I had too, after finishing "Bodyguard of Lies" by Bob Doherty (Bob Mayer). I had to look to see if some pages were missing (not unlike the time I read a copy of "Catch 22" from the library on vacation & the middle 75 pgs. were missing--what happened to those flying missions?) I did finally fill in the blank pages. Always enjoy your blog!

Hey, Barb! Long time no chat :) I finally had a chance to get over here and see you in action :) I haven't read anything this week because I've been slugging through edits. However, next Tuesday (yes, this is me VERY excited), two of my favorite authors, Diane Whiteside, and Angela Knight are in an anthology called Beyond the Dark. Uh-huh--Both of them in the same book. I can't wait! Big fangirl squee heard here! Dakota :)

I just finished Dancing With Werewolves by Carole Nelson Douglas. Liked it a lot. Deeper than the usual werewolf fare I've been reading as of late.

Reading Lord of the Dark (Advance Reading Copy) by Dawn Thompson. This is the sequel to her hot summer hit, Lord of the Deep. She has two more Lords coming in 2009, Lord of the Forest and Lord of the Fire. Frankly, she cannot write the fast enough for me!!

I'm reading Michele Ann Young's NO REGRETS. Yum! Great historical with a curvy heroine and a hero who loves her and her curves. In fact, I'm going to log off to go finish it right now. BTW, I laughed out loud reading Mayer/Crusie's AGNES AND THE HITMAN.

For my living room reading, I have The Privateer by Dawn MacTavish. For my family room reading, I'm about a quarter of the way through Riding the Thunder by Deborah Macgillivray, the second book in her Sisters of of Colford Hall series. Two good reads at one time! I just finished Warrior's Bride by Gerri Russell. Laura Bradley posted, I see. Her book, A Wish In Time, is on my TBR list. :)

What a coincidence! I'm reading Laurel Bradley's A WISH IN TIME, too. Laurel was on an internetvoicesradio show I did all about authors who support charitable causes, talking about Infertility. Jacquie Rogers was also on my show. Jacquie donates her royalties from Faery Special Romances to neurofibramatosis research. Best wishes, Rowena Cherry

Snowstorm, Barb??? I'm very jealous!!! But what a perfect reason to do nothing except sit inside by the fireplace and read in your pj's all day long!!!! I didn't actually finish reading anything this past week, but I am reading Taming Rafe by Suzanne Enoch. I don't know how S. Enoch has escaped me all these years!!! I'm really enjoying it. And congrats to the winners!

At the moment I'm reading two books--The Marsh Hawk by Dawn Thompson and The Grail King by Joy Nash. Terrific books, great for snuggle-down-on-a-cold-winter-day reading. I do so love Regencies and Dawn Thompson is a master Regency writer, and Joy's book--set in Britian during Roman Rule--is supurb. And how is your day going?

Things are looking up, thanks for asking Daring Di. I did read the Grail King and enjoyed it, but I still need to start on Dawn. I've heard great things.

You will love Dawn's books! She is a supurb writer. I've started another book by Joy Nash, Deep Magic and of course, I've just finished Cat O' Nine Tales by Deborah MacGillivray. All wonderful reads! My book, Moon of the Falling Leaves will be out in a couple of months, and I do hope you'll read and enjoy it. Daring Di
