National Library Week
April 19, 2007

Did you know that April 15-21 is National Library Week?  Well, I didn't, but thanks again, Stephen Colbert came through.  I get all my news from Stephen and Jon Stewart.

When I was a kid, I would rather spend my time at the library than doing almost anything else.  I would find an author I liked and read every single book they wrote.  The first book I ever checked out was Clarence the TV Dog.  I remember thinking how hilarious it was.

I admit that I am a library junkie.  As they will tell you at the South Milwaukee Library, I am there almost daily.  Although I order my books online and can just pick them up, I still like to browse the aisles.  There is nothing better than the smell of books.  Of course, libraries now have so much more than books.  DVDs, audiobooks, computers, e-books, games, programs and wine tasting to name a few.

So, stop in and say thanks to the people who help keep the USA literate.

Bottom line:  Librarians Rock!!

I can't agree with you more Barbara about all that the library has to offer! We take our daughters to the South Milwaukee Library regularly for them to take full advantage of the awesome children's section! Besides covering almost the entire second floor, the area also boasts a wide range of books for all ages, and DVD's/videos are available for rent too. Our daughters favorite books are the HUGE one's....3 foot x 3 foot in size....they can hardly see over them when carrying them to a table! The children's librarian, Miss Denise, offers storytimes and annually hosts a Scholastic book fair....I highly recommend attending both! Happy Belated Library Week to all!

The library is the reason I started reading and probably if you was to get whimsical, shaped me into the person I am today. I love it. Plus my mum is a librarian so libraries are a part of our day. LOL... We have library week at a different time of year but its great to know that libraries get appreciated for the services they offer!

Barbara - Happy National Library Week. I look forward to all the reviews! Some books good reading- some not so good. But either way the "Bottom Line" always ROCKS!

I agree 100%. Libraries are great. Growing up I had a great library to go to. There were always lots of fantastic books. I could spend hours looking for just the right book. During the summer there was always a summer reading program with lots of things to do. The librarians were great. Even in college the librarians were great. They are the reason I am doing what I am doing today.

Yeah for libraries! Great subject Barbara! My kids and I have made Tuesdays "Library Day". They have so much fun picking out new books and even a DVD from time to time. They also play with puzzles while we are there and they love to put on a puppet show for me. I am very proud that my kids ask to go to the library instead of a movie or video game store. I think more parents should expose their children to all the wonderful things their library has to offer. It's time well spent.

Thanks for your support of librarians, Barb! I thought it was only me (& my Mom) who are on a first-name basis with our local librarians! I agree that there is (almost) no place like the library!
