Your Turn 9
August 3, 2007

This has been quite the busy week, so let me start the day telling you three of the books I breezed through this week. The Raintree Trilogy.  Book one, Raintree:  Inferno written by Linda Howard introduces us to the Raintree clan, a powerful and good paranormal group that lives among humans without their knowledge and their sworn enemies, the evil Ansara.  Dante, the royal Danir (think King) owns a casino in Reno, can control fire and calls lightning to himself.  Lorna is a gambler who can't lose.  Dante thinks she may belong to the Ansara.  The second book, Raintree:  Haunted by Linda Winstead Johnson has Dante's brother, Gideon, a homicide detective getting a new partner, Hope, while trying to solve his cousin's roomate's murder.  Oh and he can talk to ghosts who help him solve crimes.  The final book in the series by Beverly Barton, Raintree:  Sanctuary,  finishes up with Dante's sister Mercy, guardian of the Sanctuary and her six year old daughter, Eve.  Seven years earlier, Mercy spent a night with Judah, Danir of the rival Ansara clan, not knowing who he was.  Cael, Judah's half-brother, is trying to start a war.  The three books come together nicely and reading them one after the other made it that much more enjoyable.

In my car I'm listening to The Edge by Catherine Coulter.   FBI agent Mac receives a "message" from his sister, Jilly, while she is in a coma.  She comes out of the coma and disappears a few hours later.  FBI agents Dillon and Savage also make another appearance in this book.  Mystery and suspense.

On my iPod I have Guilty as Sin by Tami Hoag.   Prosecutor Ellen North tries a college professor for  the kidnapping of a boy.  When another child is kidnapped, it appears she has the wrong man.  A real thriller.  Tami's books are hard to put down and keep your heart pumping.

Tell all time.  What have you been reading this week?

Bottom line:  Does reading a thriller count as a "cardio" workout?

Oh, what a line-up of amazing books! I've read all of these and love every word. Most recently, of course, the Raintree trilogy. What a story! My only problem was that I didn't want it to end. Loved Dante, Gideon and Mercy. Have fun reading, Barbara! Kelley www.kelleystjohn.com

I LOVED the Raintree trilogy!! All three books are fantastic. I finished HP7 at about midnight Wed night. I haven't been a HP reader but all the hype convinced me to give 6 & 7 a try (I've seen the other movies...) I wasn't disappointed (hence staying up till midnight to finish). Next on my list is Underneath It All by Lori Borrill.

Well, I'm not getting much reading in right now, since I'm on writing deadline, but I'm in the middle of the raintree series and loving it! Linda Winstead Jones's other books are great too. I'm about to start Say You Love Me by Rita Herron. I've loved all her other books, so I'm looking forward to this one.

I've been doing a lot of driving this week. It's been hard to find time to pick up a book. I am listening to I'll Be Watching You, by Andrea Kane. This is an on the edge of your chair type of book.

I'm reading something very different, a book published in 1915. Dr. Syn is by Russell Thorndyke. I don't know if any of you remember an old Disney movie called The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. Dr. Syn is the book that was based upon. It's about the small village of Dymchurch in Kent in the 1700s, and the smugglers of Romney Marsh. Lesa Holstine - www.lesasbookcritiques.blogspot.com

Good grief! I suppose if I was reading such titles I could get through three in a week, too. But I don't imagine I'd enjoy it.

I'm reading an older one by Julie Garwood this week - Castles. I've not wanted to put it down at all, but life gets really busy sometimes and one must, unfortunately, put the book down for a few days!!! I will finish this tomorrow and hopefully I'll finish the audiobook I've been listening to for the past couple of weeks, Mad Jack by Catherine Coulter.
