Susan Kearney spoke on "How to Sell Your First Book." Her advice: Do what the editor wants you to do. Ask questions about what they want and be specific. The more you learn, the better you'll sell. Janice Maynard talked about having a tough skin to deal with criticism, disappointment and rejection. She entertained the audience with stories of being a minister's wife while writing erotica under an alias. I overheard some authors remarking on Janice's advice for husbands and wives to read the book together in bed. It sounded like they wanted to rush home and try it.
At lunch I sat between Liz Kreger and Emily Howard (one of the WW Ladies) and they each won a raffle basket with Emily winning two, along with the books used as centerpieces. Lucky girl! The evening ended in a party suite, where the popular beverages were brandy and melon slushes. Bottom Line: Leaving at 6 a.m. to head home to my niece's confirmation. More coffee please.
