Thrillerfest
Hope everyone is rested up from their 3 day weekend.  Lots of stuff coming up here at Beyond Her Book.  Wednesday I'm off to the Big Apple (I know, again!) for Thrillerfest.  Be prepared for lots of inside info and Drive By Videos™ (I bought extra batteries...for the cameras).  Later this month I'll be in San Diego for Comic Con (I'm expecting a wild and crazy time there) and then on to San Francisco for the RWA (Romance Writers of America) Conference (I have a special outfit for the RITA awards, even though I wasn't nominated for anything.  I guess they don't have a blogger catagory...yet).

But first, here's the news, notes and kudos to hand out this week.  If you have anything special, newsworthy or unusual, please send me an email.  (Sorry, I can't include regular book giveaways you may have on your websites, there are just too many)

Marianne Mancusi and Liz Maverick
Marianne and Liz at 2007 RWA

From author Marianne Mancusi:  Anyway, wanted to send you a fun thing you might be interested in mentioning on the blog. Dorchester's doing a "Live the Romance" photo contest where they're inviting readers to send in pics of themselves dressed up like their favorite Dorchester characters.

There's four categories (best historical, best paranormal, most creative and most romantic.) There's cash and signed book prizes for the winners! And they wanted Liz (Maverick) and I (cause of our history of dressing up!) to be the contest spokespeople - so we did a little video explaining the rules.  You can check it out here.   (It's going to be hard for me to pick a favorite character that I'd be willing to be dressed as since some are shapeshifters...hmmm)

The Telly Awards

From Sheila Clover English, COS (Circle of Seven Productions):  Karen Rose won a Telly Award for her Scream for Me book trailer.  The Telly is the equivalent to an Emmy, but for commercials!  You can see the trailer here.  (Congrats Karen!  The book scared the crap out of me and the video shows why...the good kind of scary)

Ellora's Cave

From author Marianne StephensEllora's Cave (ECPI) is considering the possibility of having its own CONVENTION in 2009.  Authors and editors from ECPI would attend. The convention would be open to all aspiring authors, fans, readers, and booksellers and the idea is to possibly offer a 3-day event (over a weekend), an awards luncheon, a celebration party, workshops and a book fair. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in attending, please contact Valerie  for more details and give her the following information: Name, address, email address, phone (optional), number of guests (not including yourself), whether you need a room with one or two beds, and if you need a smoking or non-smoking room.  (Another possible conference to attend, I'll have to check my calendar...wait, I have an Ellora's Cave calendar.  What month was that again?)

Lori Foster's 30th Wedding Anniversary
My sons are in the back – Aaron, Jake and Mason. Luke, my grandson, (Mason’s son) is up front with me
From author Lori Foster:  June 30th, was my 30 year wedding anniversary and I spent it at the computer finishing up my next single title romance in the SBC fighter series, “My Man, Michael.”

How’d we make it 30 years? Well, it was my anniversary and I was writing, and my wonderful husband just popped his head in to ask if I wanted anything to eat or if I needed anything. LOL. No guilt trip. And when I finally dragged downstairs at 4:30 to say (pretend you hear Rocky music) “I’M DONE!” he asked if I wanted to go out to eat, stay in, see a movie, or have him go rent one.

He’s the best – and we stayed in.  After the 4th of July celebrators are off the road, we’ll take a week off to go somewhere in our new RV, and we’ll make that our official celebration of 30 years together.  (Anyone who's met Lori has to ask, "Was she married when she was 10?")

BTW, I now have over 100 people who follow me on Twitter, so if you like to try something new and innovative, come over and take a look (http://twitter.com/barbaravey).  Also, on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/barbaravey), I am joined by 1,336 friends (I can't wait for my birthday!).  It was only last October that author Jennifer St. Giles talked me into trying it and she was right, I'm really enjoying it.  Join the masses and be my friend...umm, my birthday is in October.  :)

Bottom Line:  One time I dressed up as a marinonette puppet (like Howdy Doody), but I don't think there was a character like that in a Dorchester book.  Besides, I really looked creepy (sorry, picture not available...thank goodness).

Barbara! How neat that you included me in your blog. ANd guess what? We're in West Virginia, in the RV, with our doggies. It's terrific! Not sure exactly where we'll go or what we'll see, but we have a few things planned. I just know that I need some time off, and this is the perfect way to get it! Big hugs to you. Lori

I could probably be the frumpy "before" picture of a few of Dorchester's heroines who get a make-over...but it's not photo-worthy!

As an author for The Lotus Circle, an ECPI label (I just copleted Book 3 of a psychic intrigue series) I think an ECPI convention would be excellent. It would not only give the authors a chance to meet each toher and the wonderful staff but also and more improtantly the readers, reviewers and booksellers who make us what we are. It gets my vote.

Well, congrats to Lori and surviving 30 years of marriage and having 3 sons (my mom had to suffer from having 3 sons too). ...I but wanted to note that Marianne and Liz are TOTALLY SMOKIN' HOT!!! Forget the brawny guys--if those two were on the bookcovers, I'd buy more romance books. :-)

Lori, I know I posted yesterday, but I have a question. At RT you said you were used to all the testerone. I see you have a grandson (of course a boy--what else?), so there is or was another female. How did she react to all the testerone?

I'm checking back in late, folks, because the first 2 RV parks we went to didn't have internet. That's both good and bad. Bad, because I was having withdrawal, but good because it kept me out walking and doing more. LOL Jody, we went to Hawk's Nest, and yes, it's GORGEOUS! We did an underground mining tour (pretty cool) and a jet boat tour (very relaxing!) and saw lots of falls and trails and stuff. Now we're in Hocking Hills. We drove in during a raging storm! Egads. Way to break in the RV! LOL Deborah, funny that you should ask that. All my boys are currently single, even the daddy. They've had LOTS of girlfriends, but I guess they're pretty choosy. ;-) But my boys are all ultimate gentlemen and pretty old fashioned about pampering women, so I don't think anyone would mind the testosterone too much. LOL Thank you to everyone to sent congrats on the anniversary. And my own congrats to Sheila and Karen Rose! WTG, ladies! Hugs to all! Lori
