Your Turn III
June 15, 2007

Into week three with the stories that are keeping you up at night.  You know, just one more chapter and I'll turn out the light.  The next thing you know, the birds are chirping and it's dawn's early light.  Here's your chance to let everyone know why you have bags under your eyes every morning.

My bags are compliments of Teresa Merdieros' After Midnight.  This is a reread, but I love this romantic historical fantasy that keeps you guessing, is he or isn't he a vampire?  Characters you care about, like having friends come to visit.

In my car I'm listening to Long Time Gone by J. A. Jance  I've got to admit I almost stopped right away because there was a 5 year old girl who was left alone and appeared to be abused (stuff can happen to adults, but not kids), but I stuck it out and it's really got me hooked.  She saw a murder being committed and blocked it out.  Now, years later after hypnotic therapy, she starts to remember.

On my iPod I have Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling.  With the final book around the corner, I needed to refresh my memory with what happened in the previous book which I read a couple of years ago (they say the mind is the first to go, but, it's too late, other body parts are already gone).

Bottom Line:  Meanwhile, can I borrow your concealer?

I'm still reading The Perfect Stranger by Anne Gracie. It's been a busy week but oh this book is cute! The hero and heroine are turning out to be wonderful characters I am falling in love with. And the LOL moments are high so that is another star or 2 to add for this book. My favorite one so far was when she said that is what amazing that "it" floats. You'll have to get the book to see what "it" was. ;o) Happy reading!

It didn't keep me up at night, but the problems these authors had often kept them up at night. I just finished Everything I Needed to Know About Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume, edited by Jennifer O'Connell. The twenty-two women authors who write about their pasts include Meg Cabot, Beth Kendrick and Julie Kenner. Somehow, Judy Blume's books, such as Deenie and Forever, helped them get through turbulent adolescent years. Now, they are writing YA and Chick Lit with stories that just might help other young women. Very enjoyable, poignant book.

This week has been very busy for me, thus I've read very little. So nothing has kept me awake any this week! However, I did buy for my "second mother" the new book, The Diana Chronicles, which came out on Tuesday. She has always loved Princess Diana and she turned a very young 50 on Wednesday so that's what I got her for her birthday. And I have to confess, I did read through it before giving it to her, lol. May get a copy of it for myself one day. While I'm not totally fascinated with Princess Diana, it is a very interesting story that she has left behind.

Christy, you bring up a very good point. I'm the first to admit that I read all the books I buy as gifts before I wrap them. I even tell the recipient I did so we can discuss the books. My feeling is that books need to be shared verbally. When you talk about them, you learn all kinds of things you may have missed the first time through. So, feel free to read the book before you give it to me as a gift. :)

I am reading J.D. Robb's Innocent in Death. I love this series. Eve Dallas is a homicide lieutenent in NY and Roarke is her multi-billionaire husband. This is a great series with characters that keep developing. For the romantic and sleuth in us all.

I just finished The Mad, Bad Duke by Jennifer Ashley. It's a great, fun read with a small paranormal twist. My favorite book by Jennifer is The Pirate Next Door, but I'm trying the Immortal series next. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello Barbara! I am a day late (and many dollars short) but am enjoying reading Heather Graham's "Hurricane Bay", part of her mystery/romance series. Thanks again for all your ideas & suggestions! Love reading your blog!

Enjoyed "The Diana Chronicles" & recently read Hillary Clinton's autobiography--a must-read since 2 "biographies" of Hillary Clinton that are very derogatory are coming out in August. This is a very bright & intelligent woman--both in domestic & foreign affairs (& not the kind of affair her husband was involved in)! Thanks Barb for your comments.

I'm currently reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. (I'm making an attempt to cut down my TBR pile. I really need a machete here!) It's a little history, and fantasy, and is lovely.

I haven't had much time to read this week but I've been getting my story fix while driving around in the car. I've been listening to, and enjoying, Elizabeth Lowell's 'Always Time to Die'.

Well, you know Joan, a book is a book and if you have a good reader, an audio book can be fantastic. (Unabridged, of course) So I can understand "getting your fix." I've even driven around extra to finish a chapter and EL's books are great for that.
