Barbara Walters' Sexless Audition
June 19, 2008

I wasn't quite sure I should believe my mother, who told me that the audio edition of Barbara Walters' Audition was missing some important information:  mainly the stories of her many affairs, including the one with the then married Senator Brooke, the very factoid that was the lead item in gossip columns all over the country last month.  My mother is  90, and she sometimes forgets or misses things, but still,  this was not something she, who has taken to referring to The View as "my program," would likely get wrong.

Cut to:   this post, from Richard Zoglin at Time.com, which confirms my mom's worst fears:  someone went mucking with the audio version of Audition and cut out all the good parts.  What's more,   it sounds like the muckraker [sic] was Barbara herself.   Click here if you don't believe me.

In response to: Barbara Walters' Sexless Audition
Kevin A. Lewis commented:

As the late 60's & most of the 70's are regarded nowadays with the same pious horror that British Victorians had for the wild days of the Regency, it's not surprising Barbara's PR team told her to sanitize her own life... Mediocrity, anyone?
