The Book Wars -- UK Style
June 17, 2008

You know the story:  the big bookstore chains are getting more and more powerful, and that's crowding out the "little guys."  In fact, it's getting to be an old story, one that the ABA's IndieBound is making a real effort to end.  In the UK, at least, the story is even worse, with Amazon allegedly refusing to sell certain titles because the retail giant is not getting the terms it wants.  This "hurts publishers and authors," say such  luminaries as Tim Healy Hutchinson of Hachette and author Tracy Chevalier.  Click here for an excellent BBC broadcast   (thanks for bringing it to my attention, RC) on the topic (and listen for our UK sister-in-crime, Publishing News editor Liz Thomson, who makes some very smart points toward the end.)
