K-Con and Almond Joy Martinis

Nick and Sherrilyn Kenyon
Nick and Sherrilyn Kenyon

Thursday I got to see first hand how a commercial was made when I was invited along with Sherrilyn Kenyon and her camera crew to film “The Chronicles of Nick,” a Young Adult prequel to her extremely popular Dark-Hunter series.  With the temperature hovering near 90, I didn’t make it for the full four hours, but “Nick” was cool and collected the whole time.  Sporting a bright yellow Hawaiian shirt (his trademark in the books), Nick visited all the spots in New Orleans that take place in the stories.  I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Hand made outfits that sport the book covers Bad Moon Rising and scenes from the Kenyon manga book (Heather and Caitlan)

New York Times bestselling author, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s K-Con (her own convention for her fans) isn’t officially started and yet the hotel has been crawling with her self proclaimed minions for days.  It’s almost more like a family reunion than an author event.

Yesterday  was the public book signing and the line stretched forever (as it always does for Sherrilyn and co-writer on her BAD series, Dianna Love).  Her fans sported their newest tattoos, costumes and came bearing gifts including a skull mug, Vampire protection kit and candies.

Elio, the master of the Almond Joy martini

The Minions took me to a little bar off Bourbon Street and we got to meet Elio who makes the most amazing martinis including my new favorite…Almond Joy.

And, as always on Friday, I invite you to post the books you’ve been reading lately.

Bottom Line:  Candy bar flavored martinis…the adult version of the Blizzard.

I just read Demon's Delight, an antho with Emma Holly and others. Just something to get into the holiday spirit a bit! Before that I read Amanda's Glory by Samantha Gail, the 3rd short in her 3book sci-fi series. She's so good! Thanks so much!! Heather www dot blazeofbeauty dot com

First off Thanks again Barbara for the updates. Heather and Cait you look FAB! Can't wait for you to get home and tell me the tales of what I missed. Stupid Pneumonia making the doc cancel my flight anyway. Grrrrr Love the BMR Corset and you know I already loved the Manga one. :D You guys all have a blast down there! As for what I"m reading, I luckily got to read a Galley of Born of Night so I'm long done with that but it was AWESOME! Right now I'm reading the latest by Rob Thurman, Trick of the Light from her new Trickster Novels and quite enjoying it. :)

Sherrilyn thank you so much you have brought such joy to my world with your DH series. Not to mention my hubby loves it when he comes home from work I no longer bother him with idol chatter and there fore by the time I cook dinner he is relaxed and we sit down and talk and listen to each other. He thinks it's great how much I read because I've become a good reader where as befor it was not such an easy task for me. What I'm tring to say is thank you for expanding my world and my relationship with my husband

So jealous I can't be there hanging out with you guys (& I wouldn't anyways since I'm still a few months off 21). Barbara, drink a few for me, have a great time, and please keep us all updated! As for books, just finished Born of Night the other day, and it was soooo much better than the original version! Oh yeah, please give Sherri and Erin both as many hugs as you can from me! XOXOXOXO, Wendy

I'd sure like to be there, sipping those fancy drinks and seeing the hunky men lined up as Dark Hunters (I'm sure there'll be some, right?). Instead I'm off to ogle the Cavemen at Ellora's Cave RomantiCon near Akron OH, which I think is pretty exciting too. So will be meeting the talented authors of EC and Cerridwen Press. I'll be posting about my adventures here on Barbara's blog over the next couple, so be sure to take a look. Gotta go!

Oops...that should have been Caramel Appletinis (not Carmel). Another brain cell lost to a rockin' night out with the Kenyon Minions and Barb.

I'm reading The Do-It-Yourself Lobotomy by Tom Monahan. (No, it's not fiction, although that would make a pretty intriguing fiction title .) It's a book about creative thinking.
