Hachette to Open Toronto Office
Beginning January 1, the Hachette Book Group will open a Toronto office to take over the sales of its American titles to Canada’s national accounts. Since 1990, sales of Hachette’s U.S. books have been distributed by HB Fenn, which will continue to handle sales and marketing to independent accounts. Hachette said the move fits with its growth strategy for North America. “The opportunity to market directly to the Canadian book trade and consumer is a key to smart publishing and aligns with our strategy for efficient growth,” said CEO David Young. Appointments to the Toronto office will be made later this year.

PICTURE OF THE DAY

Getting Literary in B-More
Over 1,000 people came out to the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore for the fifth annual CityLit Festival. The day-long event is the signature program of the CityLit Project, which was founded in 2004. One of the day's programs, 'Baltimore's Literati,' allowed local writers to interact with the crowd. Pictured here (l. to r.) are: Manil Suri, The Age of Shiva; Laura Lippman, Another Thing to Fall; Tom Hall, from local National Public Radio affiliate WYPR, who hosted the program; Dan Fesperman, The Amateur Spy; and Gregg Wilhelm, Executive Director, CityLit Project.
