Books on Michael Jackson Gain Little Traction
By Rachel Deahl
While Michael Jackson singles shot up to top perches in the iTunes store over the weekend, after celebrations of the King of Pop's life took hold in the wake of his sudden death late last week, the run on MJ books has been, well, less noticeable. A survey of the major houses by PW found that only one publisher is going back to press with a book about Jackson. Additionally, the most popular titles currently on Amazon about the icon--looming, respectively, at sales ranks of 228 (Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones) and 298 (Michael Jackson: For the Record by Chris Cadman)--are self-published.

Random House's Vintage/Anchor Books is reprinting and, per a rep at the house "re-promoting," Margo Jefferson's 2007 paperback original, On Michael Jackson. Barnes & Noble.com Launches Bookstore iPhone App
By Lynn Andriani
Barnes & Noble.com now has a Barnes & Noble Bookstore iPhone app.

B&N president William Lynch said the company launched the app based on the growth it has seen over the past year in its mobile traffic. With the app, he said, users can access “exclusive content and customer reviews, as well as information about the more than 50,000 events in our stores.” They can also purchase items, view B&N Recommends lists, watch video interviews with authors and access other features of BN.com. Thanks to a partnership with LinkMe Mobile from Evryx Technologies, Inc. and Spotlight Mobile, Inc., customers can use their iPhone or iPod touch cameras to snap a photo of a book’s front cover and get product details, editorial reviews and customer ratings.

The app is free at Apple’s App Store.

By Judith Rosen
In advance of next week’s ALA convention, Chelsea Green went live today with an online gift registry to enable libraries to let their patrons know which titles from the White River Junction, Vt.-based press it would like. Library patrons can go online and view the Web-based wish lists and then order a title from Chelsea Green, known for its green and sustainable living titles and political books, that they can contribute to a library's collection. In addition, any registered member of the Chelsea Green online community will be notified if their local library sets up a list. Books purchased for libraries are available at a 40% discount off the suggested retail price, free freight. As a thank-you gift, Chelsea Green will also ship personal orders placed with a library purchase free freight. Read on »
