GSL Publishing Associates Handling Arcade Sale
By Jim Milliot
The judge overseeing the bankruptcy of Arcade Publishing has approved the appointment of GSL Publishing Associates to oversee the possible sale of the company. Arcade filed for Chapter 11 in June, five months after the death of cofounder Dick Seaver, and has not published any new titles this year. Hachette is continuing to distribute the backlist, but, with the approval of the court, is keeping receipts to help pay down Arcade’s debt. David Lamb, president of GSL, said the firm’s plan is to present the “entire Arcade list to see what kind of appetite there is for it and then develop options for the sale and for Arcade.” Read on »

National Coalition Against Censorship Salutes Judy Blume
By Sara Antill
Some people may have difficulty finding humor in the issue of censorship. Thankfully, celebrated author Judy Blume isn’t one of them. Nor were the many actors, comedians, authors, and supporters who gathered at City Winery in New York City on Monday evening for “A Night of Comedy with Judy Blume & Friends.” Presented by the National Coalition Against Censorship, the event was both a celebration of the Coalition’s 35th anniversary, as well as an opportunity to honor Blume, who has actively battled censorship of her own books since the 1980s, and who has been on NCAC’s board of directors since 2000. The evening’s emcee, comedian Judy Gold, declared the adoration she’d held for Blume’s books since childhood. “The books I read were all Judy Blume,” she said. “They dealt with all the topics my mother decided we would never talk about.” Read on »

OR’s New Model at Work in ‘Going Rouge’
By Michael Coffey

That’s because, by design, publishing vets Colin Robinson and John Oakes, won’t have their book in the bookstores, as much as they profess to love them. Instead, the pair behind OR Books is publishing their instant book of essays on the rogue and rouged ex-governor of Alaska directly to consumers. Read on »

Simon & Schuster Delaying 'Under the Dome' E-book Release
By Rachel Deahl
With publishers experimenting on release dates for e-books--and, in some cases withholding the digital edition entirely (as Hachette did with Ted Kennedy's True Compass)--Simon & Schuster has announced it is delaying the release of the e-book of Stephen King's eagerly anticipated new 1,000-plus-page novel, Under the Dome.
