Google Expands Book Option Abroad

by Jim Milliot -- Publishers Weekly, 8/31/2005

Google has gone international with its book-only search service on Google Print.

Under the feature, only book results are shown when a search term is entered. Google introduced the feature in the U.S. earlier this year, and is now making it available in 14 English-language speaking countries, including the U.K., Australia, Canada and India.

In some of the smaller countries, Google will also add links to local online retailers, a feature already present on Google Print in the bigger countries.

As part of its announcement, Google noted that while it is currently scanning only public domain books under its Google Library, it will expand the scanning to include all books from its library partners beginning November 1, after the short moratorium announced two weeks ago ends.
