After attempting to establish a new wave in diet trends with its 'eat like a Californian'-pegged Sonoma Diet, Meredith Publishing Group is hoping its Golden State-inspired message can draw dieters online. In a joint deal with Waterfront Media, the publisher has launched SonomaDiet.com, a subscription-based website (which will also draw revenue from ads) with content from Sonoma author Dr. Connie Gutterson, among others. Meredith also has plans to launch two more sites in the same vein with Waterfront—diabeticliving.com (an offshoot of its Diabetic Living magazine) and hearthealthyonline.com (a planned compliment to its upcoming Heart Healthy Living magazine)—and is hoping, as executive v-p Bob Mate said in a statement, that they will help extend and expand upon the company's print efforts. Sonomadiet.com, which is currently online and includes recipes along with supportive tips and advice on weight loss from hundreds of registered dieticians, costs $5/week.
