Africa Comics Exhibit Graces Studio Museum
Africa Comics, an exhibition featuring comic art from various African countries, is currently on display at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Thirty-two artists from over twenty African countries contributed artwork to the groundbreaking exhibit. The exhibit is the first in the United States dedicated to the work of cartoonists from the African continent. Visitors to PRI's The World Web can listen to or read both a report on the exhibit and an interview with Lubangi Muniania, a Congolese educator and art critic. Shojo Exhibit Opens in DC
The Japan Information and Culture Center is showing Shojo Manga! Girl Power! at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC. The Shojo Manga! Girl Power! exhibit will feature Japanese comic art dedicated to young women and girls. Artwork ranges from pieces created during the World War II era to artwork created for today's consumers. Lunchbox Funnies Serves Up Comics
Lunchbox Funnies, a webcomics collective featuring content suitable for all ages, has just launched. The Website features the work of eight creators who provide free ongoing comic strips, along with creator profiles and an online forum. Strips on display include Aki Alliance by Ryan Estrada, Astronaut Elementary by Dave Roman, and Silent Kimbly by Ryan Sias.
