Springing Forward 2007: Adult Hardcover and Trade Paperback Listings

Edited by Dick Donahue and Lauren Joyce -- Publishers Weekly, 1/22/2007

Our preview of the spring season shows an unusually broad assortment of titles, especially in nonfiction. The Iraq war and Bush's political acumen (or lack thereof) are viewed from diverse perspectives, while health care and globalization continue to be popular topics. The Katrina aftermath and the death (and life) of Princess Diana continue to draw writer (and, publishers hope, reader) interest. The lingering effects of 9/11 are examined in both fiction and nonfiction, while Vincent Bugliosi revisits another historic tragedy, attempting to put to rest JFK conspiracy theories in Norton's Reclaimimg History. Biographical subjects run the gamut from Albert Einstein to Brooke Astor to Billy Joel, while memoirs range from Krushchev to David Hasselhoff to Robert Novak. In fiction, Michael Chabon publishes his first novel since 2000's Pulitzer Prize–winning The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay; Armistead Maupin brings back Michael "Mouse" Tolliver of Tales of the City fame; The Kite Runner's Khaled Hosseini offers his second novel. Also coming are new works by Gore Vidal, Edmund White, Don DeLillo, Michael Ondaatje, Anchee Min, Pete Hamill, Ian McEwan and—no surprise—Joyce Carol Oates. The commercial heavyweights are here, too: Baldacci, Cussler, Evanovich, Kellerman, Koontz, Steel....

Listings compiled by Alia Akkam, Robert Dahlin, Charles Hix, Natalie Danford, Hilary Kayle, Suzanne Mantell, Diane Patrick, Karole Riippa, Judith Rosen, Oona Short, Skip Skwarek and Michelle Wildgen.
