Crown's Rachel Klayman just won a 12-bidder auction for Dana Canedy's A Journal for Jordan, which grew out of a front-page story by the Pulitzer Prize winner that appeared in the New York Times on January 1. Flip Brophy at Sterling Lord sold North American rights. The book will tell the story of Canedy's relationship with her artist/soldier fiancé, 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King, who died in Iraq in October 2006, leaving behind a 200-page journal containing his hopes and prayers for the seven-month-old son he would never know. Crown hasn't decided on a pub date yet; it was announced today that Denzel Washington will produce and perhaps star in the film version, which was acquired by Escape Artists, a production house at Columbia Pictures.
