Random House Hooked Into NBC’s 'Sin Tetas'

By Rachel Deahl -- Publishers Weekly, 6/28/2007 2:17:00 PM

NBC’s recent acquisition of the Columbian telenovela Sin Tetas No Hay Paraíso (Without Breasts There Is No Paradise) could spell good things for Random House. The move--the network plans to Americanize the drama and add it to its fall lineup, in the hopes of mimicking the success of ABC’s Ugly Betty (which was also adapted from a Spanish language soap)--is potentially fortuitous for Random House because it recently signed a deal with the Spanish publisher of the book that Sin Tetas is adapted from, Editorial Oveja Negra.

Random House Spanish, the Spanish language sales and marketing division for all of the house’s Spanish language books (as well as those titles the publisher distributes from abroad), recently added the Colombian publisher as one of its clients. Now Random will be distributing the book in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada.

According to Erik Riesenberg, business development manager of Random House Spanish, Telemundo, the Spanish language broadcasting unit of NBC, is also planning its own update of the show, which it will then air in the U.S. Riesenberg said RH Spanish is also talking with Telemundo about cross-promoting the series alongside the book.
