Authors on the Air: More Marlo; Look Me in the Eye; Lies About Money

by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 10/2/2007 3:01:00 PM

Authors on this morning’s Today:

That Girl star Marlo Thomas offered The Right Words at the Right Time Volume 2: Your Turn! (Atria, $16). PW thought “Thomas's new title may be a little Chicken Soup-esque, but this is no canned concentrate--this is genuine, home-cooked comfort food.”

Cesar Millan, whose latest is Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog… and Your Life (Harmony, $25.95; RH Audio abridged CD, $27.95), which pubs today.

Ann Coulter, author of If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans (Crown Forum, $24.95; RH Audio abridged CD, $24.95), also pubbing today.

Authors on today’s (and tomorrow’s) Good Morning America:

Rosie O'Donnell discussed her forthcoming memoir Celebrity Detox: The Fame Game (Grand Central Publishing, $23.99).

Beth Holloway made A Mother’s Testament of Hope and Faith: The True Story of the Aruba Kidnapping and its Aftermath (Harper One, $24.95), pubbing today.

Diane Rehm interviewed John Elder Robison (described in brother Augusten Burroughs's Running with Scissors), whose own book is Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's (Crown, $24.95; RH Audio abridged CD, $29.95). PW’s starred review noted that “Robison succeeds in his goal of helping those who are struggling to grow up or live with Asperger's to see how it is not a disease but a way of being that needs no cure except understanding and encouragement from others.”

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Deanna Favre continued promoting Don't Bet Against Me! Beating the Odds Against Breast Cancer and In Life (Tyndale House, $22.99). Tomorrow she’ll be all over ESPN, appearing on Mike & Mike in the Morning, First Take and NFL Live.

Jonathan Kozol was Bob Edwards’guest, chatting about Letters to a Young Teacher (Crown, $19.95; Tantor Media unabridged CD, $29.99). PW starred its review, promising “the book will delight and encourage first-year (or for that matter, 40th-year) teachers who need Kozol's reminders of the ways that their beautiful profession can bring joy and beauty, mystery and mischievous delight into the hearts of little people in their years of greatest curiosity.”

On CNBC’s Street Signs, seasoned financial advisor Ric Edelman, author of The Lies About Money: Achieving Financial Security and True Wealth by Avoiding the Lies Others Tell Us–and the Lies We Tell Ourselves (Free Press, $28; S&S Audio unabridged CD, $29.95). PW called it a “helpful primer… Edelman's clear writing and helpful advice are sure to win him a satisfied audience.”

The Colbert Report hosts political scientist John Mearsheimer, co-author of The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy (FS&G, $26; Audio Renaissance unabridged CD, $49.95). PW starred its review, saying “Considering the authors' academic credentials and the careful reasoning and meticulous documentation with which they support their claims, the book is bound to rekindle the controversy.”

Tavis Smiley’s guest is documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, co-author of The War: An Intimate History, 1941-1945 (Knopf, $50; RH Audio CD, $34.95). From PW’s review: “This lavishly illustrated… visually appealing coffee-table book gives little idea of how and why America won, but a strong sense of what it felt like on the way to victory.”
