Earlier this summer, MetaMetrics began providing Lexile measures for books under many of Simon & Schuster’s imprints. S&S's announcement of its partnership with MetaMetrics today follows the recent news that Barnes & Noble will start offering its customers the ability to search for books by Lexile measure, both in stores and at BN.com. Lexile is a widely used reading measure, helping young readers develop literacy skills by selecting materials that match their reading level and interests. It is used at the school level in all 50 states and by more than 150 publishers.

Michelle Fadlalla, director of education and library marketing for S&S, said the children’s book community and the educational market consider Lexile measures “one of the most important and widely accepted standards for matching students with the right books.” She said the house has “a plethora of children’s and adult titles that appeal to students at every level” and that having Lexile measures for them “will increase access to these different books and their designated reading levels.”

Among the imprints where books are being measured are Aladdin Books, Atheneum Books for Young Readers, Atria, Free Press, Margaret K. McElderry Books, Scribner, Simon & Schuster and Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. New titles with Lexile measures have been added to the Lexile Book Database and “Find a Book” site.
