Jon Colman has been tapped to head the nonprofit Children's Book Council, and the associated literacy organization Every Child a Reader. Colman, who was most recently president of the National Down Syndrome Society, will be succeeding Robin Adelson, who left the CBC/ECAR at the end of last year.

Colman will start at CBC on March 9 and, as explained in a release, will be tasked with overseeing "the development and execution of educational programming for members of the children’s publishing industry and national and local literacy-based community programming." He will also be in charge of "expanding both organizations’ national scope."

Betsy Groban, chair of the CBC board, called Colman "a proven leader with a unique vision," while Judith Haut, chair of the Every Child a Reader board, added that Colman's "wealth of experience in fundraising and program development" will be an invaluable asset.

At National Down Syndrome Society, Colman oversaw a reorganization and launched the public awareness campaign My Great Story Public. He said that he is looking forward, at CBC, to "fortifying and expanding programming on both sides."
