Awaited middle grade and YA sequels, the latest picture book from a dynamic duo, and much-buzzed YA debuts are some of the books to look forward to hitting shelves next week.

Dorothy Must Die: The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige (HarperCollins, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-228070-1). The awaited sequel to the edgy YA retelling of Baum’s classic by a former TV writer.

I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, illus. by Tom Lichtenheld. Chronicle, $14.99; ISBN 978-1-4521-2699-9. The established author-illustrator pair team up once again for a book expressing hope for a child’s future.

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. Harper, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-232052-0. This fantasy YA has already received starred reviews and blurbs from big names like Neil Gaiman.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Balzer + Bray, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-234867-8. This YA debut has received a good deal of early praise and starred reviews. The novel about a boy confronting his sexual identity while falling in love with someone online (and being found out by the school bully) was written by a clinical psychologist.

Spirit Animals Book 7: The Evertree by Marie Lu. Scholastic, $12.99; ISBN 978-0-545-53521-2. The latest in the middle grade adventure series (with authors like Brandon Mull, Maggie Stiefvater, and Shannon Hale penning installments) is written by Legend trilogy scribe dystopian maven Lu.
