The Newbery Medalist teams up with Float illustrator Daniel Miyares for this story about two frogs, one a reader, one who wants to go to the beach, who mutually discover the joys of imagination. Snappsy the Alligator (Did Not Ask to Be in This Book) by Julie Falatko, illus. by Tim Miller. Viking, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-451-46945-8. In this metafictional picture book, an unseen narrator comments on a cranky alligator’s day. The book earned a starred review from PW.

Stars Above: A Lunar Chronicles Collection by Marissa Meyer. Feiwel and Friends, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-250-09184-0. Nine stories – five of which have never been published – provide backstory to the world of the Lunar Chronicles.

Just My Luck by Cammie McGovern. Harper, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-06-233065-9. This middle grade novel by McGovern (A Step Toward Falling) follows two friends, both dealing with difficult family situations.

Don’t Call Me Grandma by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson, illus. by Elizabeth Zunon. Lerner/Carolrhoda, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-4677-4208-5. Not all grandmas are cuddly and sweet – Nelson’s unnamed narrator thinks that her African-American great-grandmother, Nell, can be “scary” and “stern.” But despite Nell’s disgruntled expressions and chilly demeanor, her great-granddaughter has abundant fascination and tenderness for her glamorous relative.

Pax by Sara Pennypacker, illus. by Jon Klassen. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-06-237701-2. This middle grade novel alternates between the perspectives of a 12-year-old boy and his estranged pet fox as they navigate a land torn apart by war. The book earned a starred review from PW.

Fancy Nancy: Saturday Night Sleepover by Jane O’Connor, illus. by Robin Preiss Glasser. HarperCollins, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-226985-0. In this picture book, popular character Nancy helps her little sister prepare for an overnight stay at someone else’s house.

This Kid Can Fly: It’s About Ability (Not Disability) by Aaron Philip, with Tonya Bolden. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-06-240354-4. This teen’s memoir recalls his early childhood years, when he moved from Antigua to New York City to seek medical attention for cerebral palsy. Now 14, he shares memories of grueling physical therapy and multiple surgeries in passages that are honest, raw, devoid of self-pity, and punctuated with humor.

The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-236024-3. An exiled princess with magic at her fingertips, an evil queen who wants to kill her, and a young king trying to save his people are a few of the central figures in this reinterpretation of Snow White.

The Asylum Novellas by Madeleine Roux. HarperCollins, $9.99 paper; ISBN 978-0-06-242446-4. This book collects three novellas set in the world of Asylum, the YA horror novel.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. Philomel, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-399-16030-1. The latest historical fiction novel from Sepetys covers the little-known story of the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustoff in 1945. The novel earned a starred review from PW.

Sweaterweather: & Other Short Stories by Sara Varon. First Second, $19.99; ISBN 978-1-62672-118-0. Varon has added 10 stories to the eight gathered in her 2003 comics collection of the same name, along with brief introductions for all 18. The collection earned a starred review from PW.
