Change Up by Derek Jeter and Paul Mantell. S&S/Wiseman, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-4814-6445-1. In the third book in the middle grade series inspired by the life of New York Yankee Derek Jeter, Derek’s father keeps his promise to coach his son’s youth baseball team.

Spirit Animals Fall of the Beasts, Book 3: The Return by Varian Johnson. Scholastic, $12.99; ISBN 978-0-545-84207-5. A new threat faces the world of Erdas in this continuation of the bestselling series, this volume penned by The Great Greene Heist author Johnson.

Slacker by Gordon Korman. Scholastic Press, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-545-82315-9. In this middle grade novel, a kid is grudgingly pulled into do-gooding after his immersion in video games proves destructive.

Prodigy: The Graphic Novel by Marie Lu. Putnam, $14.99 paper; ISBN 978-0-399-17190-1. The second book in Lu’s dystopian YA Legends series is adapted as a graphic novel.

The Incident on the Bridge by Laura McNeal. Knopf, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-375-87079-8. California’s sun and sand harbor dark secrets in this creepy thriller from the National Book Award finalist. The book earned a starred review from PW.

This Is Not a Picture Book by Sergio Ruzzier. Chronicle, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-4521-2907-5. In this meta picture book, a duckling with a pink beak picks up a fat volume and discovers, in the irritated comment of the title, that it has no pictures.

Rescued: Ape Quartet #3 by Eliot Schrefer. Scholastic Press, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-545-65503-3. In the third installment of the Ape Quartet (following 2014’s Endangered), two-time National Book Award finalist Schrefer tackles the plight of orangutans and how their vulnerability in the wild leads to unexpected consequences.
