Norse Myths: Tales of Odin, Thor and Loki by Kevin Crossley-Holland, illus. by Jeffrey Alan Love. Candlewick Studio, $27.99; ISBN 978-0-7636-9500-2. The brutal, mischievous, and fascinating stories of Norse mythology unfold in lively and dramatic retellings, which introduce the gods and goddesses of Asgard, as well as the dwarves and giants of Midgard and Jotunheim, alongside nightmarish silhouetted illustrations.

Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa de la Cruz. St. Martin’s, $18.99 trade paper; ISBN 978-1-250-14139-2. De la Cruz reinvents a classic tale in this Christmas-themed, gender-swapped version of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Meet Cindy Sherman: Artist, Photographer, Chameleon by Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jordan. Roaring Brook/Porter, $19.99; ISBN 978-1-62672-520-1. Greenberg and Jordan profile photographer Cindy Sherman in an intimate biography. The book earned a starred review from PW.

Fallingwater: The Building of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Masterpiece by Marc Harshman and Anna Egan Smucker, illus. by LeUyen Pham. Roaring Brook, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-59643-718-0. A warm tribute to the creative genius and style of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, this picture book takes readers through his process of designing and building the famous home Fallingwater, which helped revive his stalled career, in the 1930s. I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez. Knopf, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5247-0048-5. In this YA novel, an “imperfect” daughter deals with the grief after her “perfect” sister dies.

The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives by Dashka Slater. Farrar, Straus and Giroux, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-374-30323-5. Journalist and author Slater (Escargot) offers a riveting account of the events that preceded and followed a 2013 assault in Oakland, Calif. The book earned a starred review from PW.

Dear Martin by Nic Stone. Crown, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-101-93949-9. First-time author Stone explores an African-American student’s increasingly intense feelings of displacement in his predominantly white high school, in this taut YA novel.

Malala’s Magic Pencil by Malala Yousafzai, illus. by Kerascoët. Little, Brown, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-316-31957-7. Yousafzai, the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, grew up in Pakistan dreaming of possessing a magic pencil to fix the problems that surround her.
