Here we round up new and forthcoming children’s titles, including a picture book about two friends’ language foibles, a YA horror fantasy novel, a picture book abecedarian in which a bear is roused early from hibernation, and a story of taking care of an ailing friend.

You Loves Ewe! by Cece Bell. Clarion, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-328-52611-3. Donkey and Yam (I Yam a Donkey!) are back in this picture book, still divided by a common language. This time, the contretemps trigger is homonyms, thanks to the introduction of a “lady sheep” who is the object of Yam’s affections.

Eight Will Fall by Sarah Harian. Holt, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-250-19664-4. Larkin, 17, and her brother, Garran, toil in mines beneath the isle of Demura to unearth luminite, which is used to suppress outlawed magic in this fantasy YA novel laced with horror.

Bear Is Awake!: An Alphabet Story by Hannah E. Harrison. Dial, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-399-18666-0. A grizzly bear rouses prematurely from hibernation and stirs up hunger-fueled pandemonium for a child, in Harrison’s narrative abecedarian. The picture book earned a starred review from PW.

Something for You by Charlie Mylie. Farrar, Straus and Giroux, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-374-31235-0. When a mouse in an orange jacket drops a cake by a friend’s house (“I’ve got something”) and discovers her tucked in and ailing (“Oh no! You’ve got something, too”), he tends to her with care in this picture book.
