Meghan Goel, children’s book buyer at BookPeople in Austin, Tex., cues us in to the books she (and her customers) are looking forward to this season.

What books have customers been asking about recently?

There has been a lot of excitement about the new titles from old favorites like Maurice Sendak, Shel Silverstein, and Dr. Seuss, and in newer favorites like Brian Selznick. In addition, with Austin’s big focus on music, Wildwood by Colin Meloy has been bringing in a lot of curious Decemberists fans.

Any books you’re looking forward to for the fall?

I am very excited about handselling I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen and Stars by Marla Frazee in picture books, Just a Second by Steve Jenkins and Around the World by Matt Phelan in nonfiction, The Cheshire Cheese Cat by Carmen Agra Deedy and Randall Wright and Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver in middle-grade, and Daughter of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor and Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley in teen fiction. These are just a few of the fall favorites we’re going to be featuring in BookPeople’s holiday catalogue this year.
