Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing’s Simon Pulse and Aladdin imprints have entered into a co-publishing agreement with Beyond Words Publishing and will handle sales and worldwide distribution for its children’s titles beginning in January 2012. The first book under the new arrangement is an updated edition of Soul Searching: A Girl’s Guide to Finding Herself by war correspondent and journalist Sarah Stillman, who writes for the New Yorker. The book was written when Stillman was 16; it is illustrated by Susan Gross, and contains new material addressing cell-phone use, social media, and health.

After copublishing with Atria for the past five years, Beyond Words says that it is pleased to extend its relationship with Simon & Schuster on the children’s side and plans to publish 10 to 12 children’s titles annually. “We are very excited about the collaboration with our new partners at Aladdin and Simon Pulse,” says president and editor-in-chief Cynthia Black. “We are looking forward to creating products together for a younger generation that is in keeping with our proud tradition of transforming lives.”

For her part, Bethany Buck, v-p, publisher of Aladdin and Simon Pulse, says, “We couldn’t be more excited about our publishing program with Beyond Words. Their unique and inspirational books will be a nice complement to our upcoming and backlist titles, as we are seeing these types of books proving to be a strong category for young readers.”
