When the Association of Booksellers for Children voted to merge with the American Booksellers Association three years ago, it was with the understanding that the ABA would continue and expand the programming the organization had always provided. In keeping with that understanding, the ABC Children’s Group at ABA has announced that it will add on to its programming at Book Expo and Winter Institute with its second Children’s Institute on April 6–7, 2014, in San Antonio, Tex., just before the Texas Library Association’s annual conference. The first Children’s Institute took place at BEA in 2012 and ran concurrently with the show.

The 2014 Children’s Institute, which will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Antonio Downtown, will feature rep picks, roundtables, and sessions on Selling Picture Books in the Wake of Age Compression, How to Address Censorship in Schools, and Diversity in Children’s Literature, among others.

Registration for the Children’s Institute will open in October, and the conference fee will be $79. The special hotel rate will be $119 per night. The ABA is making some scholarships available; booksellers can enter to win a scholarship at the ABA booth at the fall regional trade shows, which begin later this month.
