Tuttle Publishing will distribute We All Live in the Forbidden City, a four-book series about the history, culture, and life of imperial China, which have been created in partnership with the China Institute. The first two books, set in Beijing’s Forbidden City, will be published in October: This Is the Greatest Place! by Brian Tse, illustrated by Alice Mak, for ages 4–8, and In the Forbidden City by Chiu Kwong-chiu, for ages nine and up. Tuttle sales and marketing director Christopher Johns describes the latter work as a book for all ages and compares it to a David Macaulay book like Castle, about the building and history of a famous edifice.

“Our partnership with Tuttle is a natural extension of both organizations’ missions to promote a deeper understanding of Chinese and Asian cultures,” said Thomas Moore, acting president of China Institute. He regards the series, which the institute is producing in conjunction with CnC Design and Cultural Studies Workshop in Hong Kong and the Forbidden City Palace Museum in Beijing, as “a crucial part of our efforts to expand our outreach to a modern global audience.”

The series is supported by the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation.
