Hitting bookshelves this week are some picture books from bestselling pairings, the long-awaited second volume in a YA series, a buzzed middle-grade novel about a transgender girl, and plenty more.

Leo: A Ghost Story by Mac Barnett, illus. by Christian Robinson. Chronicle, $16.99 ISBN 978-1-4521-3156-6. The author and illustrator pair for up for the first time in a picture book about a ghost who wants to make friends. but everyone he encounters is less pleased to see him. The volume earned a starred review from PW.

Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray. Little, Brown, $19 ISBN 978-0-316-12604-5. The long-awaited sequel to The Diviners picks up with the characters where they left off, complete with plenty of Jazz Age debauchery and supernatural horror. PW gave the book a starred review.

George by Alex Gino. Scholastic Press, $16.99 ISBN 978-0-545-81254-2. Ten-year-old George knows she’s a girl, despite appearing to everyone as a boy. The novel confronts George’s acceptance of her identity, as she deals with bullying at school and confides in friends. Read more about the book, which earned a starred review, here.

Somewhere There Is Still a Sun: A Memoir of the Holocaust by Michael Gruenbaum, with Todd Hasak-Lowy. S&S/Aladdin, $17.99 ISBN 978-1-4424-8486-3. A living Czech survivor of the Holocaust shares a memoir written from the perspective of his 10-year-old self; it received a starred review.

Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm. Scholastic/Graphix, $12.99 ISBN 978-0-545-74166-8. The brother and sister team behind Babymouse team up once again for a graphic novel set during the summer of 1976, in which 10-year-old Sunny deals with changes she isn’t ready for.

Another Day by David Levithan. Knopf, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-385-75620-4. The follow-up to the best-selling Every Day acts as a companion novel, telling the story from the character Rhiannon’s point of view.

The Wild Ones by C. Alexander London. Philomel, $17.99 ISBN 978-0-399-17099-7. A new series from the author of the Dog Tags books follows a family of raccoons fighting to survive as they become embroiled in a larger mystery.

Mango, Abuela, and Me by Meg Medina, illus. by Angela Dominguez. Candlewick, $15.99 ISBN 978-0-7636-6900-3. The Belpré winner for Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass returns with a picture book about Mia and her abuela, who moves away from her sunny home and into Mia’s family’s apartment. The book earned a starred review.

Friendshape by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, illus. by Tom Lichtenheld. Scholastic Press, $16.99 ISBN 978-0-545-43682-3. The duo behind Duck! Rabbit! pair up again for a colorful picture book about geometric shapes and friendship.

Ladybug Girl and the Best Ever Playdate by David Soman and Jacky Davis. Dial, $17.99 ISBN 978-0-8037-4030-3. In the latest installment in the Ladybug Girl series, Lulu meets a new friend named Finny.

Color Dog by Matthew Van Fleet, photos by Brian Stanton. S&S/Wiseman, $19.99 ISBN 978-1-4814-4986-1. The creator behind Tails whips up another interactive book featuring moving parts and scratch-and-sniff elements alongside photographs of dogs.

The Little Shop of Monsters by R.L. Stine, illus. by Marc Brown. Little, Brown, $17 ISBN 978-0-316-36983-1. Goosebumps author Stine makes his first foray into picture books with Arthur illustrator Marc Brown, for a creepy picture book about a variety of monsters. Listen to an interview with the team here.

Bug in a Vacuum by Mélanie Watt. Tundra, $21.99 ISBN 978-1-77049-645-3. Watt employs her classic sense of humor as found in her Scaredy Squirrel books, to a more tragic theme, in which a bug trapped in a vacuum moves through the five stages of grief. Read more about the book here.
