Happy Birthday, Very Hungry Caterpillar!
Eric Carle celebrated the opening of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art’s exhibition, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Turns 50” on September 15. Carle gave a talk about the making of the classic picture book and was joined by Cathryn Mercier, director of the Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at Simmons University. Here, Carle speaks about the book’s endpapers.
Right on the Dot
Illustrator Masha D’yans discussed her picture book Polka Dot Parade: A Book About Bill Cunningham (Little Bee), with attendees during a recent event at McNally Jackson in New York City. The book, written by Deborah Blumenthal, focuses on photographer Bill Cunningham’s street fashion photography. In honor of the subject matter, D’yans dressed in spiffy polka-dots and a stylish head piece.
A Whole Lotta Love
Fifteen YA authors and 200 guests gathered for the teen book fest, Pasadena Loves YA, held at Pasadena Public Library in California on September 6. Four authors spoke on a panel called “Roads to Healing,” which addressed teen mental health in books and beyond. The panelists were (from l.) Carrie Arcos, Samuel Miller, Farrah Penn, and Aminah Mae Safi.
On the Case!
Author Elizabeth Eulberg recently toured for The Great Shelby Holmes and the Coldest Case, her newest addition to the Shelby Holmes series. On September 12, she visited The Book Stall in Winnetka, Ill. Here, Eulberg is joined by YA author Stephanie Kate Strohm (l.) and Robert McDonald from The Book Stall (holding up the cake), along with attendees.
