Penguin Random House and Brooklyn-based ice cream company OddFellows Ice Cream have partnered to bring readers a summer treat with the Brain Freeze Book Club. The partnership will pair books of varying genres with limited-edition ice cream flavors and events across New York City all summer.

OddFellows Ice Cream has created four new flavors to correspond to literary genres—Passionberry Love Potion Smoky, Bourbon Vanilla Twist, Journey to Outer Spice, and Bubblegum Pop—to match with book club titles in the romance, mystery, fantasy, and young adult genres. The flavors will be available at all OddFellows locations and at their online store and online marketplace Goldbelly. Penguin Random House will also release free online excerpts of the book club’s featured books.

The books featured for June are I’m So (Not) Over You by Kosoko Jackson (romance), Homicide and Halo-Halo by Mia P. Manansala (mystery), Cinder & Glass by Melissa de la Cruz (SF and fantasy), and When We Make It by Elisabet Velasquez (YA).

To kick off the festivities, there will be a book and ice cream giveaway on July 9 at the OddFellows location in Domino Park in Brooklyn. The first 50 guests will receive free scoops of the Brain Freeze Book Club ice creams and a copy of one of the selected books for June.
