Amazon began making e-book copies of the Harry Potter titles available through its Kindle Owners' Lending Library program in mid June. As of July 9, the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, was #128 on the Kindle bestsellers list. The e-books are only available for sale through Pottermore, but an Amazon spokesperson explained how the Potter books hit the Kindle list. "Borrows of Kindle books that are included in the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library (like the Harry Potter e-books) count as sales for the paid Kindle bestseller lists," she wrote in an e-mail.

For a book like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, then, that means the number of borrows of the e-book alone are enough to place it at #128. The seven books in the series are ranked on Kindle as follows:

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone #128

2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets #499

3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban #2,424

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire #1,858

5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix #2,165

6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince #2,419

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows #1,524
