October was a tough month for publishers with only the adult e-book, digital audio and university press segments posting gains among the major categories. Adult e-book sales rose 40.7% in the month at publishers that report to AAP’s StatShot program, with sales hitting $103.7 million. Digital audio sales rose 28.4% in the month.

Sales in the professional and K-12 materials segments both had declines of just over 21%. For the first 10 months of 2012, adult e-book sales were up 35.9%, to $1.06 billion. The children’s/YA segment also had solid gains through October, up 18.7% with e-book sales up 160% and hardcover sales ahead 21.5% at publishers that report to AAP. StatShot figures are based on reports from 1,195 publishers.
