HarperCollins science fiction and fantasy imprint Harper Voyager is ramping up its Voyager Impulse digital-first line with plans to launch 31 original e-book titles beginning this summer and on through winter 2015. The novels and novellas will encompass a broad range of sci-fi and fantasy genres and Voyager Impulse e-book releases will be followed by short-run paperback editions.

Most of the titles to be released were selected from more than 4,500 manuscripts submitted to the Voyager Impulse line during a global open call for new works made by the publisher in 2012. One of the forthcoming releases is Thorn Jack by Katherine Harbor, a Florida bookseller. The book was the first acquisition by Voyager after the open call was issued. The book will also be published as a hardcover in July.

The Voyager Impulse e-books will range from such subgenres as urban fantasy and military science fiction to fantasy, fairy tales, horror and superhero fiction. Initial releases include The Stolen by Bishop O’Connell (July), an urban fantasy with a female protagonist, Glory Main by Henry V. O’Neil (July), military sci-fit set in outer space and The God Hunter by Tim Lees (August), a humor-driven paranormal thriller. Other titles include Superheroes Anonymous, urban fantasy by Lexie Dunne and The Charming Tales, a comic fairytale by Jack Heckel.

Jennifer Brehl, senior v-p, executive editor, and director of editorial development at William Morrow and Voyager, said, “Voyager Impulse gives us the opportunity to expand our frontlist in new directions and offer a more diverse selection of imaginative fiction to readers. David Pomerico, executive editor of Harper Voyager, said that more titles will be released digitally every month. He emphasized that Voyager Impulse titles will receive the same services and support of any Voyager titles and the speedy production process for digital titles will deliver titles to the marketplace quickly.
