The International Board on Books for Young People has announced the shortlist for the 2016 Hans Christian Andersen Awards. The awards honor international authors and illustrators for their contributions to children’s literature, and are the highest international recognition given to creators in the field. In the U.S., Lois Lowry has been nominated for author, and Chris Raschka for illustrator.

The shortlisted authors and illustrators were chosen from a list of 57 nominations, led by jury president Patricia Aldana. The full list of nominees can be found on IBBY’s website.

The two winners will be announced at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair on April 4, 2016. The medals will be presented in August, at the IBBY Congress in New Zealand.
