Jennifer Bigelow, who was at the helm of the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association since 1999, has resigned as executive director effective December 31.

“After much thought, discussion with my family and Mary Williams (Skylight Books, Los Angeles) president of SCIBA, I feel that my focus needs to be directed to my family,” said Bigelow in a press release. “I have had the most amazing experience and opportunities helping to build a regional association that Southern California independent booksellers can benefit from and be proud to be a part of.” Bigelow thanked the SCIBA presidents she has served under during her tenure, as well as her colleagues from the other regional associations.

Bigelow was the first executive director to be appointed by SCIBA in the organization’s history. On behalf of the SCIBA board and members Williams thanked Bigelow and said, “Her work has built SCIBA into the organization it is today, and has raised the profile of Southern California’s literary community nationwide. We wish her the very best.”

On Thursday morning there was no word on how SCIBA will replace Bigelow, who may be reached at jbigelowscibabooks.org.
