To get the holiday season off to a strong start at independent bookstores on Small Business Saturday (November 30), Simon & Schuster created an exclusive video of authors ranging from Jeannette Walls to Jonathan Alter and Mary Higgins Clark talking about the value of shopping at independent bookstores. The video, which was produced by S&S Digital’s Studio 4, features nine independent bookstores, including Bank Square Books in Mystic, Ct.; Green Apple Books in San Francisco; and PW Bookstore of the Year, Square Books in Oxford, Miss.
“We were impressed by the ABA’s great success with last year’s Shop Local campaign and really wanted to provide our own extra support to this year’s efforts,” said Liz Perl, senior v-p, director of marketing at S&S. “Our authors were willing and eager to participate and support their retail partners, and the video gives voice to the deep gratitude they feel for local booksellers.”
S&S is working with the American Booksellers Association to offer a white-label edition of the video to any independent bookseller who wants to embed it on their Web site or show it on in-store monitors. Booksellers can go to a custom page to grab the video and digital assets, including banner ads.
