At a time when many college stores are feeling the squeeze on textbook sales from online retailers, the bricks and mortar stores must now face yet another competitor: Staples. Through a partnership with BookRenter, a Rafter company, the office supply chain, which is headquartered in Framingham, Mass., added textbook rental to its product list available on its newly updated Web site. It will offer all 5.5 million titles currently on the BookRenter platform.

“With Staples’s customer base, brand name, and decades of experience delivering school materials to students, this partnership allows us to follow through on our mission to make education more affordable and accessible to even more students,” said BookRenter v-p, e-commerce, Sara Leoni.
