'Ahead' of the Pack

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, may want to rebrand herself as the Christian Louboutin Contessa. Her latest cookbook, Make It Ahead, not only tops our Hardcover Nonfiction list but is the country’s #1 book overall, with more than 130K copies sold in its first week. Her two previous titles each did about half as well in their first week on sale, so what’s new this time? Garten stepped-up her social-media presence, for one. She joined Facebook and Twitter in 2012 and now has more than 600K Facebook fans and 90K Twitter followers. Her cool factor has increased accordingly: in the last year, Buzzfeed has run several articles on Garten and Taylor Swift cooked on her TV show.

A Princely Showing

It’s been 11 years since Knopf published Blood Canticle, the most recent entry in Anne Rice’s long-running Vampire Chronicles. Now, with of the release of Prince Lestat, her antihero has returned as strong as ever (even after his dirt nap), landing at #4 on our Hardcover Fiction list with more than 30K units sold. Recent follow-ups in other series have not debuted nearly as well, strengthening the case that Lestat is Rice’s crowning achievement.

The Rushing Revolution

Galloping straight to #1 on our Children’s Fiction list, Rush Limbaugh scores big once again with Rush Revere and the American Revolution, with close to 56K copies sold. Rush Revere and the First Patriots, though published last March, rode the new title’s coattails to land at #7. To date, the three books in the Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans series have sold more than 488K copies in hardcover, at outlets reporting to Nielsen BookScan.

Laughing All the Way to #3

Amy Poehler’s Yes Please, #3 on the Hardcover Nonfiction list with well over 36K sold, is the latest in a recent spate of memoirs written by women comics.
