Unit sales of print books rose 5% in the week ended Sept. 25, 2016, compared to the similar week in 2015, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. All categories saw gains over the week ended Sept. 27, 2015. Adult fiction posted the largest gain ( 7%), thanks to strong debut-week sales of Harlan Coben’s latest thriller, Home, and the continuing success of The Girl on the Train, which sold 105,000 print units last week across three editions (one trade paper and two movie tie-ins). In adult nonfiction, 12 titles debuted on the bestseller list, helping to drive sales up 5%. Atlas Obscura and Designing Your Life led the debuts in sales. Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s Killing the Rising Sun is still the top adult nonfiction title, selling 100,000 copies last week. In children’s fiction, sales of Halloween-themed books are picking up, the most popular of which were Little Blue Truck’s Halloween, which sold 26,000 copies (up 3% from the prior week) and Room on the Broom, which sold 12,000 copies (up 20% from the prior week), and seven of the 10 top selling board books were Halloween related. Pokémon Go guides were two of the top five bestselling children’s nonfiction titles.
