10/5 Rick Geary in Portland, OR

A Treasury of Twentieth Century Murder creator Rick Geary will appear at Bridge City Comics in Portland on October 5 to discuss and sign his books with a Portland audience. The event takes place from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5 and is free to the public. Bridge City Comics is located at 3725 North Mississippi Avenue, Portland, OR.

10/6 - 10/16 Comic Book "Action Philosophers" Play Premieres in New York, NY

From October 6-10, The Impetuous Theater Group will put on “Action Philosophers”, a new play based on the comic book series of the same name by Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey at The Brick theater in Brooklyn. The show runs Thursday – Sunday for two weekends in a row, the second at the same time as New York Comic Con. The play is sixty minutes long, and shows begin at 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Adapted for the stage by Van Lente's wife, award-winning playwright Crystal Skillman, the play features the real historical adventures of Nietzsche, Plato, Ayn Rand and more in a humorous fashion. The Brick is located at 575 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased in advance on The Brick's website.

10/12 CBLDF Signings with Kevin Sacco, Riley Rossmo & more in NYC, Calgary, Oberlin & Columbus, OH

To celebrate the release of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's 2011 free speech fundraising anthology CBLDF Liberty Annual 2011, creators from the anthology, across the continent, are holding signings. Kevin Sacco, Thomas Chu, Brandon Montclare, Michael Bramley and J. Gonzo among others will hold a signing at Forbidden Planet in New York City, Dara Naraghi will sign copies at Laughing Ogre Comics in Columbus, Ohio, Riley Rossmo will be signing it at Another Dimension in Calgary in Alberta, Canada and Kazim Ali will sign at Infinite Monkey Comics in Oberlin, Ohio. On October 12, the New York event takes place at 6:30 p.m. at 840 Broadway, New York, NY and the Calgary signing takes place from 5-7 p.m. at 424 B 10th Street Northwest, Calgary, Alberta. The Columbus and Oberlin event times have yet to be announced, but Inifite Monkey Comics is located at 65 East College Street, Suite 1, Oberlin, OH and Laughing Ogre Comics is located at 4258 North High Street, Columbus, OH. 10/13-10/16 New York Comic Con in New York, NY

On October 13 through 16, the 2011 New York Comic Con will take place in New York City and feature such comic creator guests as Robert Kirkman, Mike Mignola, Jim Lee, Amanda Conner and David Mazzucchelli among many others as well as literary guests such as Brandon Sanderson and Patricia Brigss. The 2011 New York Comic Con will be held at the Javits Convention Center at 655 West 34th street, New York, NY. Hours are 4-7 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $45 for Friday or Sunday, $85 for all three general admission days and $100 for four days including the exclusive preview night. Tickets are $10 less and four day passes are $15 less when purchased in advance online, Saturday tickets are already sold out.
