Postponed because of the widespread political protests throughout the Arab World, the Middle East Film and Comic Con, an annual pop culture convention aimed at Middle Eastern fans, has rescheduled and will be held in Dubai, April 20 and 21. The event will feature programming aimed at science fiction, fantasy and superheroes as well as videogames, role playing and card games, comics, graphic novels, anime and manga and cosplay.

Marvel, Archaia, IDW, Archaia Entertainment, Kill Shakespeare and Top Cow are among the comics publishers and creators who will be exhibiting. In addition there are two bookstores—Jashanmal and Kinokuniya—set up to offer retail outlets for the fans.

While the event is organized to provide access to international pop cultural materials, the MEFCC is also intended to spur a new generation of regional artists, writers, animators and pop culture entrepreneurs to create their own popular arts content. The MEFCC is the first event of its kind to provide this kind of outlet to Middle Eastern pop culture fans.
