On May 12, the 2012 Long Beach Comics Expo will take place in Long Beach, California. Focusing on California-based creators, the show will feature such comics creator guests as Joshua Hale Fialkov, Georges Jeanty, JT Krul, Bernard Chang and Dustin Nguyen among many others. The 2012 Longbeach Comics Expo will be held at the Long Beach Convention Center at 300 East Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach, CA. Hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 for adults, which includes free admission for two children ten or under.
On May 18-20, the University of Chicago will hold "Comics: Philosophy & Practice". a special three day educational event and academic conference about the creation and culture of comics and their evolving future. The conference will feature live lectures and discussion from seventeen different renowned comics creators including Alison Bechdel, Daniel Clowes, Art Spiegelman and Lynda Barry among others. The event will take place at the University of Chicago's new Logan Center for the Arts and will be the new facility's first conference. The conference will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, from 9 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free to the general public, but preregistration online is encouraged. The University's Logan Center for the Arts is located at 915 East 60th Street, Chicago, IL.
Comics creator Francoise Mouly, art director for The New Yorker will be discussing her new book Blown Covers: New Yorker Covers You Were Never Meant to See alongside comics creator Art Spiegelman and illustrators Barry Blitt and Roz Chast at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on Tuesday, May 22 and with Blown Covers blog creator Nadja Spiegelman and illustrator Jorge Columbo at Greenlight Books in Brooklyn. Mouly and her fellow panelists will discuss the process of creation and submission process of New Yorker covers as well as the amateur cover contest on the Blown Covers blog. The 92nd Street Y event will take place at 8:15 p.m. on May 22 in Buttenweiser Hall and tickets cost $34 each, the Greenlight Books event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on May 23 and admission is free.
