9/17-9/23 Brooklyn Book Festival and Bookend Events in Brooklyn, NY

The Brooklyn Book Festival, New York's largest free book festival, will be featuring extensive comics and graphic novel content this year. The festival takes place on Sunday, 9/23, but affiliated "Bookend" literary events will begin on Monday, 9/17. Featured comics creators at the festival include Carla Speed McNeil, Jaime Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Gabrielle Bell, Derek Kirk Kim, Adrian Tomine, Molly Crabapple, Spike Trotman and Peter Kuper, among others. The Brooklyn Book Festival is centered around Brooklyn Borough Hall located at 209 Joralemon Street, but has events and panels at other venues throughout Brooklyn. Comics-related Bookend events include: Comics creators Seth Tobocman and Ellen Lindner presenting and celebrating volumes 1 and 2 of The Graphic Canon - the acclaimed anthology of great world literature adapted into comic form - on 9/18 at 7 p.m. at the Bell House, located at 149 7th Street, Brooklyn. Artist and graphic novelist Adrian Tomine will be featured in a special gallery exhibition, reception and book signing of his work at powerHouse Arena on 9/20 at 7 p.m. Both events are free to the general public.

9/18-9/23 "Love & Rockets" 30th Anniversary Tour in Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia & Brooklyn

Indie comics legends Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez are making a very special Love & Rockets signing tour of the East Coast. The acclaimed comics creators are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their famous long-running epic. They will appear in Baltimore on 9/18 at p.m. at Atomic Books at 3620 Falls Road, Baltimore. The Philadelphia event at the Philadelphia Free Library takes place on 9/19 and includes a presentation by the Hernandez brothers in the library's Montgomery Auditorium from 7:30-8:30 p.m. followed by a Love & Rockets signing in the Library Lobby from 8:30-10:30 p.m. The Philadelphia Free Library is located at 1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia. The tour's Brooklyn event is on 9/23 from 7-9 p.m. at The Rock Shop, located at 294 4th Avenue, Brooklyn. All events are free to the public.

9/28-9/30 MorrisonCon with Grant Morrison, Robert Kirkman, Gerard Way and more in Las Vegas, NV

On 9/28-9/30, Grant Morrison and iFanboy and Isotope Comics present MorrisonCon, a one-time comics special event presented by Morrison in Las Vegas. Different from a traditional comic con, Morrison Con only has 10 comic creator guests, but will feature them at many panels and events, giving fans more time with their favorite creators. The lineup of guests are: Grant Morrison, Robert Kirkman, Darick Robertson, Jason Aaron, Jim Lee, Gerard Way, Jonathan Hickman, Frank Quitely, J.H. Williams III and Chris Burnham. The convention will begin with a thirty minute spoken word theater piece/occult ritual performed by Grant Morrison with musical accompaniment by Gerard Way and James Dewees. This event will depict Liberace and Howard Hughes fighting to the death over the soul of Las Vegas. MorrisonCon programming begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, 9/28 and continues until 6 p.m. on Sunday 9/30. Morrison Con takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas. Ticket and hotel packages are still available, but must be purchased in advance at MorrisonCon.com.
